Discovery at Your Fingertips

Animals can be fascinating, scary, and dangerous. However, people are intrigued by them and want to experience them in their natural habitat. I am just as intrigued as everyone else. However, I am not only driven to see the animals, but also to photograph them, if possible, in a safe manner. The pictures on this website were all captured in the wild by me. If I do include images of a zoo or a captured animal/bird, I will make this known.

Be aware that many of the pictures will appear to be taken up close and personal. In reality, I use good cameras, a long lens, and creative cropping in post-production to bring you closer to the animal.

Animals have many characteristics and behaviors that are captivating to learn about and observe in the wild. Now, let us begin your exploration of some of the animals found in Yellowstone and beyond. Click on the image or text under any of the photos to learn more about that animal. Also, consider some of the comparisons that are frequently asked about when visiting Yellowstone.

Predators hunt and kill other animals for food. Characteristics include sharp teeth, claws, and paws, and they are typically fast. They also have very sharp eyesight and/or hearing, and their eyes face forward to judge distance. So, yes, you are a predator.

A prey is an animal hunted for food by other animals. They are hunted, but they have natural abilities that help protect them most of the time. They employ camouflage to avoid detection. They can be fast and agile. Eyes are positioned on the sides of the head to provide a wider field of vision. They have keen senses of smell and hearing.
